Glutathione

What Is Glutathione?

Glutathione is a tripeptide molecule composed of three amino acids: cysteine, glutamine, and glycine. It exists in two main forms in the body – the reduced form (GSH), which is the active antioxidant, and the oxidized form (GSSG), which occurs after glutathione has neutralized free radicals. The body continuously recycles GSSG back to GSH through the enzyme glutathione reductase, maintaining a critical balance for optimal cellular function.
Found in virtually every cell in the body, glutathione is synthesized intracellularly and reaches its highest concentrations in the liver, lungs, kidneys, and immune cells. The body’s ability to produce glutathione depends on the availability of its amino acid building blocks, particularly cysteine, which is often the rate-limiting factor in glutathione synthesis.

Administration Methods

Oral Glutathione Supplements

The choice between IV and oral glutathione depends on individual health goals, medical conditions, budget considerations, and the guidance of a LifeMed wellness provider. IV administration offers superior bioavailability and rapid effects, while oral supplements provide convenient, ongoing support for maintaining glutathione levels and supporting optimal methylation pathways.
